Introduction[edit | edit source]
Gears are secondary tools that are used for extra utility in the mines. Gears are split into three types: main-hand, offhand, and manual use. Main-hand Gears offer miscellaneous abilities which can range from speed boosts, light emissions, and other effects such as pickaxe ability rate buffs. Offhand Gears have abilities that directly assist in mining blocks, such as explosives. Manual use Gears aren't able to be equipped and instead have a special ability that requires manual usage, such as modifying events and tracking ores.
A very common misconception is that explosion/bomb gears are main-hand. Explosives are in the offhand, while the hand for coils, tonic, etc is the main-hand because it's the hand that holds the pickaxe. (Check the comments if you disagree)
Editor note: The wiki actually had main-hand vs offhand incorrect. I'm working on fixing it but some gears may still be listed incorrectly. If you see this feel free to fix it (explosives should be offhand, and coils main-hand).
Most Gears currently also provide luck boosts which are applied to blocks generated by the gear. Some offhand gears such as the Luminatite Lantern and Phantasm Lantern also possess abilities/effects from main-hand gears, such as a light emission and topbar event buffs.
NOTE: The effectiveness and overall functionality of specific Gears may be affected if you are playing on a server with high ping (Ctrl + F7 or Ctrl + Shift + F7 to see ping). Most Gears work best on servers with less than 100 ping on average. It is recommended to stay away from public servers as the large amount of players there can heavily increase ping.
