Best DIY Gender Reveal Ideas

1. DIY Gender Reveal Tic Tac Toe

21 Creative and Exciting DIY Gender Reveal Ideas to Share the Big News - Simplymarla (2)

I may be a little biased but how cute is this gender reveal DIY! This is my gender reveal DIY that we created the night before the reveal and it made the perfect backdrop and photo opportunity. To accomplish this look, we purchased a wooden backdrop from Hobby Lobby and hung 12 wooden circles onto it with command hooks. We decorated the arch with pink and blue balloons and some ultrasound pictures.

The object of this gender reveal is to get three matching colors in a row to reveal the gender of your baby. I gave my sister the gender and she mapped out the colors so that we would be surprised the day of the reveal. Typically, you want to make your board mimic a tic tac toe board which contains 9 circles. She wanted to make it a little more time consuming and did 12 circles. We almost didn’t see the 3 pink circles diagonally across! We completed with the reveal with some cute confetti poppers for the family to set off.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  1. First, paint your wooden circles on one side either pink or blue and allow them to dry before hanging.
  2. Once your circles have dried completely, you can now decorate them to display a message, picture or just the color. You can write the babies possible names, girl or boy or display a cute bottle or pacifier. We printed it’s a girl or boy on the appropriate tile and then just stuck a simple question mark on the opposite side. Be sure to put a small hole in your circles so that you can string through any ribbon for hanging them.
  3. Now that your circles are decorated and ready to go, go ahead and map out where you want the circles to go onto your wooden arch. We did a 4×3 pattern to prolong the reveal. Most people prefer the 3×3 like a traditional tic tac toe game. With a ruler or measuring tape, plan the distance between your circles to make sure they are even spaced. We used a level for this part to make sure they were perfectly straight but it still wasn’t perfect because each loop of string was different.
  4. Once you have a plan for our circles, stick your mini command hooks onto the wooden arch and loop string through your wooden circles. Hang the circles to create 3 in a row for the gender of the baby. We create cute bows out of ribbon to hide the command hooks and add some decor to the reveal.
  5. Lastly, create your balloon arch to frame your wooden arch that will display your gender. Use the plastic string that come in the kit to guide your balloons in a straight line. Then, bend the balloons arch once they get closer to the curved part. Be sure to secure your balloons in the wooden arch or the walls with string. We wrapped string around the balloons and taped it to the wall so that the balloon arch would not fall or droop down. Fill in any gaps with extra balloons and add a small cluster on the opposite side of your arch on the floor. We stuck some ultrasound pictures on the balloons for a unique and personalized touch!
